Many women get so depressed every year, as soon as the cold weather hits. We are stuck inside, we are less active, and we get in an annual rut, laying around eating and feeling low.
After years of experiencing this myself, I realized that instead of avoiding my mind, body and heart health in the wintertime, it was exactly what I needed to focus on to help me enjoy winter.
I have learned to value and nurture myself, especially in the winter. Remembering how connection, mindfulness and movement during the tough times helps me not only survive but thrive in the cold, dark days.
I make an extra effort to get outside, meditate, and take my Vitamin D supplements in the winter. I also set myself up a routine to connect with other women, and loved ones, to keep my oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine levels up.
